Bench spotting on the Embankment

Just taking a seat down at Embankment brings great wonder. These fantastic Sphinx benches (look out for the Camel ones too) near to Cleopatra’s Needle were designed by British architect George John Vuillamy (1817-1886) and produced by Z. D. Berry & Son of Regent Street.

The benches actually predate the needle by 1 year. Vuillamy also designed the pedestal and Sphinx statues at the foot of the needle as well as the wonderful sturgeon wrapped street lamps along the river.
